About
Named after the second moon of Thyferra, Xucphra began its life as a prestigious medical corporation providing the Galaxy with the most potent healing compound available: Bacta. During the last decades of the Galactic Republic, it retained close ties to the Trade Federation, and later the Confederacy of Independent Systems, aiding their efforts to control trade in the outer rim territories and driving the price of Bacta up on the backwater worlds beyond the Colonies.
When the Clone Wars broke out, Xucphra retained its relationship with the Confederacy, while its rival Zaltin stayed faithful to the Galactic Republic. When the Confederacy was defeated and the New Order, which transformed the waning Republic into the Galactic Empire, was declared, both Xucphra and Zaltin were annexed into the Bacta Cartel, which was granted an exclusive monopoly on the trade and distribution of Bacta.
Xucphra and Zaltin thrived under the Galactic Empire, but after a few decades it became apparent that the leaders of Zaltin were growing sympathetic to the goals of the Rebel Alliance, and eventually the company switched affiliation. Zaltin's defection left Xucphra as the sole Bacta producer for the Galactic Empire, but the economic windfall was short-lived as the Rebel Alliance soon set its sights on Thyferra. The planet became a battlefield between the Imperials and the Rebels, with both Bacta producers caught in the middle. Eventually, the Rebel Alliance triumphed, conquering Thyferra and driving Xucphra offworld.
The Rebels quickly made public the secrets behind the art of Bacta production, which allowed for new medical corporations to harvest Alazhi, refine it into Bacta, and produce their own medical products without relying on the Bacta Cartel. With funding from the Galactic Empire cut off, their farms, refining centers and labs confiscated by the Rebel Alliance, and their monopoly broken, Xucphra became little more than a shell with a few meager possessions and nearly went bankrupt, staying out of the news for five years.
Then, in year 10 of the Galactic Civil War, the trading corporation known as Mecrosa approached the remaining stockholders of Xucphra and bought them out. Establishing a new headquarters near a rich Alazhi deposit on the commercial world of Lorell, Xucphra now seeks to make a new name for itself and regain its former prestige as a respectable corporation providing the Galaxy with top notch medical products under the guidance of its new parent organization and the aid of its sister company, Kobola.
